Review: Delicious Shabu-shabu at Matsunoya in Cebu

This time, we would like to introduce Matsunoya, a restaurant in Cebu where you can enjoy shabu-shabu with a quality comparable to Japan.

Shabu-shabu Matsunoya is located in NEO TOKYO—the first Japanese town in Cebu—which opened in April 2023.

The prices are a bit on the higher side, but aside from shabu-shabu, there is also a bar owned by SHOGO (vocalist of 175R), so it’s definitely worth a visit.

Location & Basic Information

It is located in Mandaue, about 20–30 minutes by car from Mactan Airport, and less than 10 minutes from Cebu English School.

Menu at Matsunoya

Pork and chicken shabu-shabu are available as all-you-can-eat options starting from 899 PHP for lunch and 999 PHP for dinner.

Side dishes such as chilled tofu, morokyu, quail eggs, and salted cabbage are available and pair well with alcohol.

This is the premium course, which includes unlimited beef in addition to pork and chicken.

The drink menu is also extensive, offering soft drinks, beer, sake, and shochu.

I tried the rare “Cervezas San Miguel,” which had more richness compared to San Miguel Light and was quite delicious.

The shabu-shabu broth has a strong dashi flavor and is very tasty. There is also a collagen-infused soup option.

Ponzu and sesame dipping sauces are served, and it’s great that you can enjoy plenty of vegetables.

The pork slices were lean and healthy.
The beef shoulder was also relatively lean yet delicious—a rare treat in the Philippines.

The thinly sliced chicken breast stayed tender even when cooked and was very enjoyable.

Although pricier than local buffets, being able to enjoy such high-quality shabu-shabu in the Philippines is truly appreciated.

There are many other excellent Japanese restaurants in NEO TOKYO, so we’ll share more reviews soon!
